Gay Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopic A list of bleak, futuristic books with prominent gay characters or m/m romance flag All Votes Add Books To This List. Here are my nine favorite (or most-anticipated, in one case) queer YA post-apocalyptic books. Some of them take place in the aftermath of our actual world, while some take place in the aftermath of another or an alternate world. I know there are a LOT of books out there about ZOMBIE 🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️ apocalypse.

I don't have anything against zombies but I feel like most of them are same. Here are some books I've already read similar to what I'm looking for and enjoyed. (Slow barn and world building would be a plus). Today on the site I’m thrilled to be sharing the cover of All That’s Left in the World by Erik J. What better way to foreshadow the relationships that are going to bind and propel the rest of this show. Zombie lore meets a gay coming of age tale that defies genre expectations at every turn. This kind of intimacy is still not something we see a lot of when it comes to gay men, and other queer relationships on screen. So what this leads to is the beauty and intimacy of private queer relationships. Share this post. But more than that, queer relationships of every type are scrutinised.

When not writing, Amara usually reads, listens to podcasts, watches anime, plays a video game here and there but mostly collects them , and takes way too many cat pictures. In a bottle movie like this where the characters are trapped in one setting, it would normally feel like a lack of focus undermining the tension, but here it feels expansive and substantive, adding depth and almost blooming into more of a tragic love story than a home invasion movie.

Coming up with characters and worlds since childhood, Amara eventually found an outlet in writing. Soon more snow would be on its way. Darren set out to achieve certain things with his story. On a clear day, you could watch him skimming stones in nothing but his undershorts, but not this morning. Anything they make could be really good, that's the whole reason it's so awful when they make bad things.

Because of this, a queer relationship does become performative, and often straight audiences expect palatable versions of that performativity when those relationships are depicted on screen. So, Brokeback Mountain meets Walking Dead , for teens! To all the beady eyes of society. Queering up your shelf, one rec at a time!
